Penske Powers It’s Way to Championship

Detroit, MI –September 26, 2019:  The Detroit Sports Media (DSM) would like to recognize member Roger Penske and the entire Penske Racing Team for winning this year’s IndyCar Championship.

This past weekend’s NTT Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at Laguna Seca Raceway marked the final Indy Car Race of the year.  When the checkered flag was waved, Team Penske had finished #1 & 2 in Championship standings with friend of the DSM, Josef Newgarden, winning the championship by 25 points over teammate Simon Pagenaud.

Will Power finished 5th overall in the championship, giving Team Penske three of the top five drivers this season.

Earlier this season, Newgarden was the guest of honor at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix preview luncheon, hosted by Detroit Sports Media.  He went on to win that race here in the Motor City, and after winning the overall points championship he had this to say about finishing atop the standings after the final race weekend was complete:

“The most important thing was for a Team Penske car to win the championship, and that’s the way we devised our strategy, and you hope it works out in your favor, but ultimately what’s important is the team winning the championship, and that was our plan. Just really proud of everybody.”

All at Detroit Sports Media congratulate Newgarden, and everyone at #TeamPenske along with their manufacturer, Chevrolet, on a fabulous season, and we look forward to following them in their quest to repeat this feat again in 2020!
