Patrick Wisdom of the Chicago Cubs named the National League Rookie of the Month for June; Ryan Mountcastle of the Baltimore Orioles named the American League Rookie of the Month for June

Third baseman Patrick Wisdom of the Chicago Cubs has been voted the National League Rookie of the Month for June, and first baseman/outfielder Ryan Mountcastle of the Baltimore Orioles has been voted the American League Rookie of the Month for June. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Wisdom earned his first career monthly award and is the first Cubs Rookie of the Month recipient since his teammate Kris Bryant in August of his NL Rookie of the Year Award-winning 2015 campaign. Mountcastle similarly claimed his first monthly honor and is the first Orioles winner since Brian Matusz in August 2010.

• Posted a slash line of .260/.333/.616 with 14 runs scored, 19 hits, two doubles, eight home runs, 16 RBI and a stolen base over 27 games played.

• Clubbed nine homers in his first 20 games this season, joining Hank Sauer (1949) as the only players since 1901 to hit nine-or-more home runs in their first 20 games of a season.

• Delivered four home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored during a torrid four-game stretch from June 5th-8th.

• On June 28th, delivered the Cubs’ first pinch-hit round-tripper since David Bote on August 17, 2020

against the St. Louis Cardinals.

• Batted .312 (34-for-109) with 17 runs scored, two doubles, 11 home runs, 27 RBI, six walks and a .633 slugging percentage over 28 games played.

• Notched an RBI in eight straight games from May 31st-June 9th, matching Carlos Correa for the longest such streak in the Majors this season, as well as the longest streak by a rookie in franchise history.

• Homered in three straight games from June 2nd-5th for the first time in his career, becoming the first Orioles rookie to do so since Jonathan Schoop in September 2014. Coincided with a streak of

six games with at least one extra-base hit and RBI from May 31st-June 6th, tied for the second-longest such streak in Club history behind only Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson’s run of seven games in July 1976.

• Posted his first career three-homer game on June 19th, the first by an O’s hitter since Pedro Severino on June 4, 2019. Became the second rookie in Club history to accomplish the feat, joining Nick Markakis (August 22, 2006).

Others receiving votes for NL Rookie of the Month included outfielder Yonathan Daza (.327, 33 H, 8 XBH, 15 RBI) of the Colorado Rockies; infielder Jonathan India (.303, 24 R, 30 H, 9 XBH) of the Cincinnati Reds; second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. (16 R, 25 H, 10 XBH, 17 RBI) and starting pitcher Trevor Rogers (5 GS, 2.73 ERA, 29.2 IP, 34 SO) of the Miami Marlins; backstop Tyler Stephenson (.305, 15 R, 8 XBH, 10 RBI) of the Cincinnati Reds; and third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes (.273, 13 R, 24 H, 13 RBI) of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo (.348, 11 R, 23 H, 7 2B) also posted an impressive month. The dynamic 22-year-old posted a 10-game hitting streak from June 11th-24th, slashing .417/.500/.556 with six runs, 15 hits, five doubles and a pair of RBI during the hot stretch. Starting pitcher Logan Gilbert (2-0, 2.79 ERA, 19.1 IP, 23 SO) of the Seattle Mariners also received votes for AL Rookie of the Month.
