Owls Sweep FIU Behind Sacco’s Shutout

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team completed the sweep over in-state rival FIU with a 1-0 victory on Saturday. Gabby Sacco was excellent in the circle once again, throwing a complete game shutout to improve to 15-3 on the season.

The Owls’ victory pushes FAU to 26-13 on the season including 8-4 in Conference USA play, and FAU is only three wins shy of its win total of last season.

Just like yesterday’s game, today was a pitcher’s duel, with Florida Atlantic striking first. In the bottom of the second inning, Zoey Jones led off with a base hit. Jones used some heads-up baserunning to get to second on a delayed steal. A few batters later, Riley Ennis drove her in with an RBI single, her 17th RBI of the year, to put the Owls on top. It turned out to be enough for Sacco, FAU’s ace.
