Owls Set Out For First C-USA Road Trip

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The last two Conference USA champions – spanning the past four seasons – are set to tangle on Saturday afternoon in Birmingham, as the 2017 and ’19 champions, Florida Atlantic, travel to take on UAB, winners in 2018 and ’20.

The Owls and Blazers both have convincing opening wins in C-USA play under their belt, with FAU routing FIU last Saturday, 58-21, and UAB upending North Texas on Sept. 18, 40-6. Both teams have 3-2 overall records as well.

Though the Owls cannot extend their home winning streak this weekend, they remain on the leaderboard after last week’s FIU win. Two teams ahead of them dropped off, as Notre Dame’s 26-game streak was snapped by Cincinnati, and Oregon’s 15 in a row was ended by Stanford. Those were second and fourth, respectively, coming into the weekend.

 GAME PREVIEW

 SERIES HISTORY

The Owls hold a 5-2 all-time record against UAB and are 3-2 when playing in Birmingham. FAU traveled to UAB in 2009 and 2010, and then made the trip, for the first time as a C-USA member, in 2014. The last time the two teams met was in the 2019 C-USA Championship in Boca Raton, a 49-6 FAU victory, which served as the largest margin of victory in the history of the title game.
