Owls Set for 2023 AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team is heading to Huntsville, Alabama this weekend for the 2023 AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships on Friday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 5 at John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex. Pool play begins on Friday starting at 10 a.m. ET.

“I’m excited for the girls to have an opportunity to win an individual national championship,” expressed head coach Steve Grotowski. “All of the matches are tough, and they will need to maintain a high level of focus for three days to be successful. When our girls get into their zone, they are really tough to beat and I’m excited to see how they do!”

Florida Atlantic will have two competing pairs during the championships. The Owls are one of just six programs that have two pairs seeded in the top-20 out of a field of 64 pairs.

Julie Honzovicova and Ashleigh Adams are the Owls’ top-seeded pair at No. 8, while Courtney Moon and Marketa Svozilova round out Florida Atlantic’s field at No. 20.

Honzovicova and Adams are the top-seed in pool 8 and will open up play on Friday against No. 57 Marlayna Bullington and Lily Patock of Boise State at 11 a.m. ET. The pair will get back to action at 2 p.m. ET against North Alabama’s No. 40-seeded Mackenzie Martin and Selma Robinson, before closing out the day against No. 25 Zoey Henson and Lauren Wilcock of Washington at 5 p.m. ET.

Moon and Svozilova will compete in pool 10 as the No-2 seed and will begin competition at 10 a.m. ET against conference-rival UAB’s No. 45 Brooke Pertuit and Madeline Sigmon. The pair will then compete in their second match of the day at 1 p.m. ET against No. 52 Lila Bordis and Destiny White of Georgia State, before closing out opening day play at 4 p.m. ET against No. 13 Gabi Bailey and Ellie Shank of LSU.
