Owls Seeking Best Start in School History

YPSILANTI, Mich– On Sunday afternoon, the Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team will take on Eastern Michigan. The Owls are looking to extend their winning streak to six games and set the best start in school history, which would be 7-1. The Owls started 2018-19 at 6-1, which was the first year under head coach Dusty May.

STREAKING OWLS

FAU is riding a five-game winning streak and is fresh off of a blowout win over South Alabama, 84-59. The Owls shot the ball efficiently, going 60.7% from the field and 62.5% from 3-point range. The Owls also had a huge edge in the rebounding by a 38-20 tally.

Michael Forrest led the way with 17 points, four rebounds and three assists. The senior guard also shot 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Brandon Weatherspoon tied his career high of 16 points in a big night, shooting 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from 3-point land. Nick Boyd recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Owls’ defense stifled a good South Alabama attack, forcing 14 turnovers and limiting the Jaguars to just 30% shooting from 3-point range. The Owl defense has held its opponents under 60 points in each of the last three games.

STATS & NOTES

  • Owl guard Michael Forrest is climbing the FAU all-time scoring leader board. With 69 points this season, Forrest has scored 1,383 throughout his career. Forrest is five points behind Jeff Cowans for fifth place in FAU history
  • FAU wasted no time in taking control last game against South Alabama. After the Jaguars scored the first bucket, FAU stormed back with a 15-0 run. The active Owl defense forced six turnovers during that stretch en route to forcing 12 on the game
  • Owl forward Giancarlo Rosado delivered a key lift off the bench last time out against South Alabama. The sophomore forward scored eight points on an efficient 4-of-7 shooting from the field
  • FAU has made double-digit 3-pointers in three games this season (Lynn, 10, Florida, 13, South Alabama, 10), all of which have been wins. Owl guard Johnell Davis has been shooting the long ball well with a 56.3% clip. Forrest is also shooting the 3-pointer at a 41.4 % rate, while Jalen Gaffney is hitting the 3-pointer at a 40% clip
