BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team hits the road for the time in 2023 on Tuesday when they meet UCF in Orlando. Both teams are coming off opening weekend three-game sweeps.
OWLS IN REVIEW
The Owls outscored Monmouth 37-12 to begin the season 3-0. FAU broke out for 14 runs on Saturday night and another 17 on Sunday. Dylan Goldstein finished the weekend 7-for-15 with 9 RBI. Newcomer Christian Adams hit his first home run as an Owl on Sunday and completed the series 6-for-11 with six driven in.
On the pitching side, Hunter Cooley, Jacob Josey, and Nicholas Del Prado each gave FAU a solid start on the mound and the bullpen conceded just two earned runs in 13.2 innings.
Evan Waterbor is expected to make his first career start on Tuesday. The Trinity, Fla. native threw 19 pitches in a cameo relief appearance on Saturday.
THE OPPONENT
UCF is also coming off a weekend sweep. The Knights downed Siena by scores of 22-5, 2-1, and 11-1. Ben McCabe homered three times and drove in seven. Brady Shannon finished 5-for-9 with two homers and nine RBI.
Jacob Marlowe is the Knights’ projected starter on Tuesday. The lefty threw an inning and a third scoreless on Friday night. Marlowe made a one-inning relief appearance in the first matchup with the Owls last season.
OPPONENT HISTORY
UCF has a slight 47-39 edge in the all-time series. The two sides split two games last season with the Knights winning 13-1 in Orlando and the Owls taking the second game 5-3 in Boca Raton. The second game of this season’s series will take place in Boca on March 28.
UPCOMING
The Owls will return home for a three-game weekend series with future AAC opponent USF beginning Friday.
