BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball returns to the FAU Baseball Stadium this weekend for its penultimate home series of 2023. The Owls will meet FIU for the second time season and final time as Conference USA opponents.

OWLS IN THE OUTFIELDJoin us Saturday for a special community event. “Owls in the Outfield,” a carnival-style outdoor block party, will take place in the Tom Oxley parking lot between the baseball and softball stadiums. This inaugural event, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., will allow attendees to watch both games of FAU’s softball and baseball teams while participating in other fun-filled events.

FAU softball will host North Texas beginning at 1 p.m., before baseball’s 4 p.m matchup with FIU. FAU’s mascots Owlsley and Hoot, and a DJ, along with face painting, balloon artists, photo booths, food, games, and other activities also will be onsite.

Attendees can view the game from the party, and/or purchase a $25 general admission ticket for admission into both games here. Fans are encouraged to bring their own chair.

OWLS IN REVIEWThe Owls scrapped and clawed on Tuesday night in Coral Gables against No. 16 Miami but ultimately came up short in a 12-9 defeat to the Hurricanes. UM posted a six-run fourth inning that proved to be too much for the visitors to overcome. Trailing 12-4, FAU chipped away and had the tying and then go-ahead run on in the eighth inning with the bases loaded.

WHO’S HOTJohn Schroeder hit his fifth home run of the season on Tuesday and drove in four runs total. Schroeder also had two hits including a home run in the first game of the doubleheader last Saturday vs. WKU. He has at least one hit in 10 of his last 11 games.

Robert Wegielnik pitched another scoreless inning on Tuesday and has now shrunk his ERA to 2.42. The hard-throwing righty last allowed an earned run 10 appearances ago on March 19 against UTSA.

Nolan Schanuel has reached base in 37 straight games. He singled, walked twice, and scored three runs on Tuesday.

THE OPPONENTFIU (16-24, 4-14 C-USA) dropped two of three to UTSA at home last weekend. After being swept by Louisiana Tech the weekend prior, the Panthers clipped then-No. 24 Florida Gulf Coast 5-4 on April 19. FIU did not play a midweek game this week.

OPPONENT HISTORYThe Owls won two of the three games played in Miami against FIU on Easter weekend. Schanuel finished that series 8-for-11 at the plate with two home runs and five RBIs. Jacob Josey allowed one earned run in six innings in the game two win. FIU closed out the weekend by winning the series finale on the run-rule after a nine-run sixth inning.

UPCOMINGThe Owls will have the week off for exams before a three-game series at Charlotte begins on May 5.
