Owls Meet FGCU for Third and Final Time

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team (30-18), fresh off a pivotal series win over La. Tech over the weekend, will make the short trip to Fort Myers on Tuesday for one final midweek matchup with Florida Gulf Coast (29-18).   
OWLS IN REVIEW

The Owls closed out the weekend series against La. Tech with a 5-2 victory on Sunday. Tyler Burnham improved to 6-0 with six innings of one-run ball. Nolan Schanuel hit a two-run homer in the first inning and later doubled to plate another. Nicholas Toney was 3-for-3 with two doubles to go along with his second home run of the season. Robert Wegielnik took over in the seventh and recorded his second nine-out save of the season.

FAU (15-9) is now in sole possession of third place in Conference USA, one game behind UTSA (16-8) for second. The Owls have six C-USA games remaining – a home series against Charlotte (14-10) this weekend and a trip to Marshall (9-15) next week.

THE OWLS’ OPPONENT

FGCU took two of three from Kennesaw State on the road over the weekend. In Sunday’s 10-9 series finale victory, sophomore outfielder Ian Farrow homered twice and drove in seven runs. Farrow also homered in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. He finished the weekend 6-for-9 with 12 RBI.

On the mound, lefthander Gus Carter pitched 3.1 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. He allowed just one hit and no runs. Carter, a senior, will be making his first start of the season on Tuesday against FAU.

FAU – Nicholas Del Prado (RHP) (1-1, 5.40 ERA) vs. FCGU – Gus Carter (LHP) (1-0, 4.32 ERA)
OPPONENT HISTORY

This will be the rubber game of the season series between the Owls and the Eagles. The home team has won each meeting so far. FGCU prevailed back on April 19. The Eagles did all their scoring in the fifth inning in route to a 5-1 final. The Owls evened the series with a 6-4 victory one week later in Boca. Max Martzolf struck out 11 in 4.1 innings to preserve the win.
