BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University baseball will hit the road for a three-game series with FIU beginning Thursday. Due to the Easter holiday on Sunday, all C-USA games this week have been moved up to finish on Saturday.
OWLS IN REVIEW
The Owls knocked off No. 15 FGCU on Tuesday to complete an eight-game homestand with a record of 7-1. Dylan Goldstein capped off the 8-4 victory with a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth. Prior to that, the bullpen came up big with four consecutive scoreless frames from Max Martzolf, Bryan Boully, C.J. Williams, and Robert Wegielnik.
WHO’S HOT
- Nolan Schanuel has homered in back-to-back games and has reached base at least once in 25 straight.
- John Schroeder is 5-for-9 in the last two games.
- C.J. Williams has held opponents scoreless in each of his last 11 innings (five appearances).
THE OPPONENT
FIU has dropped six straight entering this week’s series. The Panthers fell in defeat to Stetson by a 6-4 score on Tuesday. In Conference USA, FIU picked up wins against UAB and Dallas Baptist before being swept by Middle Tennessee last weekend.
Offensively, redshirt senior Mike Rosario leads the way with seven home runs, 28 RBI, and a .361 average. FIU has not named a starting rotation yet but expect Angel Tiburcio and Ryan Cabarcas to be involved. The pair have made eight starts each and have each accounted for 30.1 innings . Tiburcio’s 3.86 ERA is a team-best.
OPPONENT HISTORY
The Owls took two of three from the Panthers last season in Boca Raton. Hunter Cooley delivered a complete game in the series opener with five hits and one run allowed. The Owls lead the all-time series 75-52. The sides will meet for a second time later this month (April 28-30) at the FAU Baseball Stadium.
UPCOMING
The Owls will visit Fort Myers for the first time this season on Tuesday for game two against Florida Gulf Coast. FAU returns home on April 14 to start a weekend series with C-USA newcomer Dallas Baptist.
