Owls Fall on Walk-Off in Regular Season Finale

Charlotte, N.C. – In the last game of the 2021 regular season, Charlotte defeated the Florida Atlantic University softball team, 5-4 in extra innings. The Owls took a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning, but Charlotte won with a two-out walk-off home run.

FAU rounds out its regular season with a 28-24 record, including 15-8 in C-USA action. The 28 wins and 15 conference victories are both the most for FAU since the 2018 season.

The Owls have qualified for the C-USA Championship Tournament, which will be held at North Texas starting on May 11. Check on confernceusa.com later for brackets and game information.
OWLS DROP A NAIL BITERCharlotte hopped out to a 3-1 lead after the Owls grabbed a 1-0 edge in the first inning with a Myah Murray RBI single. In the fourth, Maddie Carlock scored after Olivia Peterson got caught in a rundown in a first and third situation.

In the fifth inning, Sara Berthiaume delivered a clutch two-out RBI single to tie the game. Berthiaume went 2-for-4 at the plate today and made three terrific catches in left field.

Back-to-back hits from Zoey Jones and Murray put runners on first and second for FAU in the eighth inning. Up next was Holley Peluso, who was in her first at bat of the day after coming in as a defensive replacement. Peluso laced an RBI double just inside the left field line that scored Jones and put FAU in front, 4-3.

FAU got the first two outs in the eighth inning, but the 49ers stayed alive with a base hit, then Stacy Payton ended it with a walk-off home run to left field.

Jones went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Murray picked up a pair of hits to go 2-for-3.
CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT SEASONThe Owls will return to action for the Conference USA Tournament this week at North Texas. The bracket and the FAU matchup will be released later tonight.
