Owls Edged by Mean Green in Extras

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team was defeated in extra innings by North Texas on Friday night by a 2-1 final. The game was the first after the Owls’ home was officially renamed to Joan Joyce Field to honor the Owls’ legendary coach.

In the eighth inning, Cierra Simon hit a solo home run to left field to put the Mean Green on top. All three runs came with a solo home run, as Olivia Peterson launched one over the right center field fence to tie the game in the fourth. The round-tripper was her team-leading sixth of the season, and she also leads the Owls with 28 RBI.

Gabby Sacco put forward another good outing but received the tough loss. Sacco delivered her 13th complete game of the year and struck out four batters while walking only two while limiting the North Texas offense to only the two solo home runs.
