| Registration now open for AvMed Orange Bowl 5K and Windhaven Orange Bowl Paddle Championship |
| Miami Lakes, Fla. (orangebowl.org) – Orange Bowl Fitness Weekend, which includes a 5K run/walk and a paddle championship, will take place on Saturday, May 11 at Miami Marine Stadium on Key Biscayne, Fla. to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. “Orange Bowl is proud to engage our community by providing a fun-filled day of fitness activities for all ages at the AvMed Orange Bowl 5K Run/Walk and Windhaven Insurance Orange Bowl Paddle Championship,” said Orange Bowl Committee president and chair Jose Romano. “This event also affords us the opportunity to raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters providing mentorship opportunities for children facing adversity.” The inaugural AvMed Orange Bowl 5K Run/Walk features a scenic 3.2-mile route. All participants are encouraged to sport their favorite college colors. The race will feature mascots, fight songs and other activities to celebrate college athletics. The finish line will include an array of interactive games, beverages, food trucks and music. On-site registration for the 5K begins at 6 a.m. The opening ceremony will take place at 7 a.m., and the race will begin at 7:30 a.m. All participating runners and walkers will receive an official race t-shirt, swag bag and a finisher’s medal. The top three male and female finishers in each age group (14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+) will be recognized at 9 a.m. during the official award ceremony. Participants are encouraged to stay for the Windhaven Insurance Orange Bowl Paddle Championship at the conclusion of the 5K. AvMed is the title sponsor of the Orange Bowl 5K. On the same day, more than 300 competitive and recreational paddlers of all skill-levels are expected to compete in an array of unique races and courses at the ninth annual Windhaven Insurance Orange Bowl Paddle Championship. The paddle championship event will feature a challenging 8.13-mile Adventure Sports Miami Long Race for elite-level paddle boarders around historic Virginia Key. The short basin race consists of a 3-mile loop in protected waters inside the Marine Stadium Basin, and the novice basin race welcomes all first-time and novice paddlers for a fun 1-mile course on calm water. In addition, the event will also feature outrigger canoe races for teams of six, two and solo. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with the first race kicking off at 8 a.m. and the other races taking place thereafter. All paddle participants will receive an official event t-shirt, swag bag, participation medal, complimentary breakfast and a lunch voucher. Registration is also open for the popular AvMed Orange Bowl Corporate Challenge featuring corporate teams from top South Florida companies. All corporate teams will receive a four-person paddle team that will participate in an “inflate the board” challenge and a relay race complete with a short paddle course and an on–land finish through an inflatable obstacle course. Corporate teams also receive four runner/walker registrations for the AvMed Orange Bowl 5k and an inflatable paddleboard. The top performing corporate teams will receive awards.
