FORT LAUDERDALE (August 5, 2024) – Habitat for Humanity of Broward is thrilled to announce open enrollment begins on Monday, August 12 for its transformative homeownership program. The application deadline is Thursday, August 22. This opportunity is a vital step for families dreaming of owning a home in Broward County.
The program is designed to guide applicants through a four-step process: pre-qualification questionnaire, orientation, financial analysis review and face-to-face interview. Successful applicants can expect to complete the homeownership program within 12 to 18 months.
Qualifications include but are not limited to the following:
- First-time homebuyer.
- U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident.
- Current Broward County resident or working in Broward (for a year or more).
- Demonstrated need for affordable housing
Financial requirements include:
- Adherence to HUD income guidelines.
- Total debt-to-income ratio within Habitat guidelines
- Stable employment history
- Established monthly savings account with at least $1,500 balance
- Ability to pay $3,000 in installments to an escrow account
- Sufficient credit history, with healthy debt management, no unsatisfied public records, and no bankruptcies within the last three years.
Interested families are invited to visit https://habitatbroward.org/apply/ to start the process by completing a pre-qualification questionnaire during open enrollment starting August 12. Notifications regarding the next steps will be sent within two weeks of submission.
Eligible applicants who pass the pre-qualification questionnaire will be invited to attend a homebuyer program meeting. The session will include the following:
- Homeownership program application packet and documents request list
- Step-by-step guidance on completing a submission packet
- Answer any questions applicants may have
The final step involves a home visit to assess housing needs, followed by recommendations from an independent Home Selection Committee.
