Softball – Sharks Complete Series Sweep Against Bucs

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Softball team swept a doubleheader on Saturday, defeating Barry 12-0 in game one and 4-1 in game two. The Sharks were led by a dominant one-hit, shutout performance from Julia Allen in game one and a two-RBI performance from Ryleigh Langwell in game two of the Sunshine State Conference matchups.

How it Happened

TOP 3rd | Emily Thomas led off the inning with a single through the left side and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Alyssa Drogemuller put the Sharks on top 1-0, driving in Thomas with a double down the right side. Ryleigh Langwell advanced Drogemuller to third with a base hit and stole second. A base-hit from Madison Fine drove in Drogemuller and Langwell, extending NSU’s lead to 3-0. Tia Williams singled and advanced Fine to second. Kerstyn Shaw singled through the middle, driving in Fine, putting the exclamation point on a six-hit, four-run inning for the Sharks.

TOP 4th | Hayley Lynch (1B), Alexis Smith (BB) and Drogemuller loaded the bases for NSU with one out. A sacrifice fly from Langwell drove in Lynch and extended Nova Southeastern’s

lead to 5-0. With two outs, Fine singled through the left side, driving in Smith to increase NSU’s advantage to 6-0.

TOP 6th | Drogemuller reached on a fielder’s choice and was advanced to second after a seven-pitch walk from Langwell. Fine advanced both runners and a walk from Tia Williams loaded the bases for the Sharks. With two outs, Shaw worked a five-pitch walk and drove in Drogemuller, extending Nova Southeastern’s lead to 7-0.

TOP 7th | The Sharks loaded the bases with no outs after Thomas (BB), Lynch (BB) and Smith (HBP) found their way aboard. A base-hit from Drogemuller drove in Thomas, and Lynch due to throwing error, putting NSU up 9-0. Langwell drove in Smith with a single through the middle, also advancing Drogemuller to third (10-0). A double from Williams scored Langwell and Drogemuller, adding to a three-hit, five-run inning for the Sharks in the final frame.

How it Happened

TOP 4th | Madison Fine led off the inning with a base-hit through the left side. Tia Williams put the ball in play, but a throwing error from Barry allowed Fine to score, giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead.

BOT 5th | A fielder’s choice allowed the runner on third to score, tying the game at 1-1 for Barry.

TOP 6th | Williams worked a two-out walk and stole second. A single through the middle from Kerstyn Shaw drove in Williams, regaining a 2-1 lead for NSU.

TOP 7th | Hayley LynchAlexis Smith and Alyssa Drogemuller hit three singles in a row, loading the bases for the Sharks. A clutch, one-out double from Ryleigh Langwell drove in Lynch and Smith and extended the Sharks’ lead to 4-1.

BOT 7th | Drogemuller closed out another complete game, securing win No. 18 and a 4-1 victory for NSU over Barry in game two.

What's Next

The Sharks will return to the field on Friday, May 5 for a home matchup with Eckerd at the AD Griffin Sports Complex in the last series of the regular season. First-pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
