MONTGONERY, Ala. – The UAB women’s soccer team tied its second-highest goal output in program history after seven different players scored to lead the Blazers to a dominant 8-1 victory over Alabama State on Sunday night. Laura Zemberyova scored twice to lead UAB (4-2-1) to its most goals scored in six and a half years.
The Blazers got on the board in the 5th minute on Morgan Halliwill’s goal. Four minutes later, Alabama State (0-2-0) got the equalizer from Rylee Stoehner. Kamilah Mustafa would get the eventual game-winner in the 11th minute.
The teams would go into halftime with UAB leading 2-1.
Lizzie Hill set up Stella Kiss three minutes into the 2nd half to put the Blazers ahead 3-1. UAB would explode with three goals in the next 10 minutes starting with Canby Biddle’s first career goal in the 60th minute that made the score 4-1. Zemberyova followed in the 64th minute and Lexxe Lipsey in the 70th minute to put the contest out of reach at 6-1.
The Blazers weren’t done scoring yet. Zemberyova’s second of the game in the 72nd minute preceded Kristen Goodroe’s goal in the 82nd minute to close out the scoring.
Ines Villanueva Casal and Erika Manfre added assists on the evening.
The next match will be Feb. 26 when UAB opens the Conference USA slate against Southern Miss. Kickoff against the Golden Eagles is slated for 6 p.m.
MATCH NOTES:
- This was UAB’s highest goal output since Sept. 19, 2015 when the Blazers defeated Chattanooga 7-0
- UAB scored eight times against Chattanooga (10/27/96), Houston (10/24/04) and Jacksonville State (9/13/96)
- In two all-time matches against Alabama State, UAB has outscored ASU 13-1
