Offensive Eruption Leads UAB Past Columbus State 6-0

BIRMINGHAM. – UAB (6-2-1) tallied goals from five different players in its 6-0 dominating victory over Columbus State at BBVA Field on Sunday afternoon. The win was the Blazers third in a row.

Stella Kiss led the way with a pair of goals (52′ PK and 63′) along with an assist. Laura Zemberyova got the game winner (8′) and added two assists. Lexxe Lipsey recorded her league-leading seventh goal of the season (61′) as well as an assist.

Keeper Anika Toth stopped three shots to earn her second clean sheet of the year.

The Blazers wasted no time getting on the board, as Zemberyova was the first to find the back of the net for UAB in the 8th minute. Morgan Halliwill added to the count in the 21st minute after taking a long pass from Regan Kommor and shaking off a defender for the goal to put the Blazers ahead 2-0.

In the second half, Kiss took advantage of a CSU handball in the crease to convert a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. Lipsey added UAB’s fourth goal in the 61st minute and Kiss scored her second of the match two minutes later. After Melina West’s throw in found Zemberyova, she passed it to Kiss, who buried her sixth of the season.

Kristen Goodroe set up Kamilah Mustafa for the Blazers’ final goal of the afternoon.

“This was a good team win for our group today,” said head coach Erica Demers. “We always love playing against Columbus State because they never stop working no matter the score and they make you stay honest with your play.
