Oakland Park residents can start using a new and improved city park.
Greenleaf Park is officially open, adding new opportunities to get outside, get active, and enjoy downtown Oakland Park. The new green space at 1300 Park Lane East features a full basketball court, tennis and pickleball courts, a playground, a shaded pavilion, and lush landscaping. Greenleaf is one of several public spaces completed or refreshed in recent months, following the new Oakland Park Library and the reopenings of Stevens Field and Richard E. Giusti Heart Par Cours.
Oakland Park leaders are concerned that residents will lose a school. Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Howard Hepburn has recommended closing Lloyd Estates Elementary after the 2026-27 school year. No final decision has been made.Following a morning meeting on September 1, another meeting will be held on September 6, at 6 p.m. at Lloyd Estates Elementary School. Residents and families are encouraged to attend, share their concerns, and make their voices heard. The city continues to advocate for Lloyd Estates and encourages the community to stay informed and engaged throughout the process.
The City Commission supports a proposed FY 2027 operating millage rate of 5.6799 mills. If adopted following public hearings in September, it would be the 12th millage rate reduction in the last 13 years and the city’s lowest operating millage rate in 18 years.
The proposed $180.6 million budget includes a $28.8 million Capital Improvement Program that invests in parks, public safety, infrastructure, and neighborhood improvements while continuing Oakland Park’s commitment to responsible financial management.
Public hearings on the proposed FY 2027 budget will be held:
· Sept. 9: Tentative millage rates and budget
· Sept. 14: Final fire, stormwater, and residential solid waste assessments
· Sept. 23: Final millage rates and budget
