The City of Oakland Park continues building and creating for a variety of new facilities and amenities for the centennial in 2029. 

Coming soon, there will new sidewalks near Lloyd Estates Elementary School. Most of the students at Lloyd Estates who live within a ¼ mile radius walk to and from school. The upcoming Safe Routes to School project will provide a continuous sidewalk system to help students get to and from school safely.

The project will include installing or replacing about 14,750 linear feet of a five-foot-wide sidewalk and installing ADA ramps, crosswalks, and curbs to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety throughout the area. The boundaries for the new sidewalks are Prospect Road to the north, NW 38th Street to the south, Powerline Road and I-95 to the west, and North Andrews Avenue to the east.

The City of Oakland Park secured a $922,749 grant through the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Safe Routes to School Program and $751,690 from the Broward MPO for the project. The contractor is mobilizing this week and is expected to begin construction later this month. The sidewalk project is expected to take about nine months to complete. 


Port Everglades welcomes Azamara Cruises

Port Everglades officially welcomed Azamara Cruises for the first time and Azamara Onward to its new South Florida winter homeport during a traditional dockside plaque-and-key ceremony. As a portal to the world, the greater Fort Lauderdale seaport is an ideal fit for the luxury small-ship cruise line that offers sailings to destinations around the globe.

Azamara Onward‘s three sailings from the port this cruise season include a 12-night and 14-night journey to the Eastern Caribbean, and a 13-night Central America Tapestry Voyage, which kicks off the 155-night Around the World Voyage that departs on January 5, 2024. The newest ship in Azamara Cruises’ collection is built like its other three ships to accommodate up to 700 guests as it crosses oceans, cruises waterways and docks at intimate locations.
