NSU Student-Athletes Set New Semester GPA Record

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – With records falling left and right on the playing surface in 2021, more were broken in the classroom as well, as Nova Southeastern’s student-athletes set a new departmental-best Grade Point Average (GPA) for a fall semester with a collective 3.44 overall. Of that number, 33 student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA – another department record – while the Sharks’ impressive streak of a departmental GPA above a 3.0 extended to 23 consecutive semesters.

For the third straight fall, all 16 of NSU’s athletic programs earned a team GPA better than 3.0, with each group having at least one student-athlete record a perfect 4.0 semester. In all, a record 94 student-athletes were named to the Director’s List for achieving a GPA of 3.8 or higher, as 82 percent of all athletes met the 3.0 mark.

“Our Shark student-athletes continue to raise the bar each semester with their academic performance,” beamed Senior Woman Administrator, Title IX Coordinator and Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services, Rachel Fineberg. “Their commitment to excellence in the classroom is unmatched and I am unbelievably proud of their accomplishments. We could not ask for better representatives of our athletic department and our institution.”

Leading the way academically, the women’s tennis team topped all NSU programs with an outstanding GPA of 3.87. All 10 student-athletes reached Scholar Athlete status with GPAs of 3.25 and above, with half of that number turning in 4.0’s. On the men’s side, the Sunshine State Conference and Super Region 2 champion men’s soccer team matched the men’s golf team with a 3.57 overall GPA as the top male programs within the department. The 3.57 mark set a new team GPA record for men’s golf, while the performance set a new fall-semester record for men’s soccer.

In addition, three other teams exceeded a 3.50 team GPA – women’s golf (3.83), volleyball (3.61) and women’s cross country (3.56). The totals for both women’s golf and women’s cross country set new team records for the fall semester. Men’s swimming (3.33) and baseball (3.28) also raised the bar with new overall team GPA records.

Another record-breaking fall runs the count to 11 consecutive semesters in which NSU student-athletes have collectively exceeded a 3.20 GPA.
