Nova Southeastern Honors 2020 Baseball Senior Class

With five pitchers and two position players, NSU recognizes senior seasons cut short 

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Concluding its Senior Day recognition for the programs whose seasons were limited this spring by the COVID-19 pandemic, today the Nova Southeastern athletic department would like to celebrate the baseball team and its seven seniors in Brady AckerBrandon ChineaAnthony DiFedeAndrew LaboskyMatt OrnelasJoe Smeton and JP Williams.    
 
Consisting of five pitchers and two position players, this group represents a range of Shark experiences, battling through adversity to maintain the success story that is NSU baseball. The 2020 seniors accounted this season for a .325 average, 54 hits, 12 doubles, 24 walks, 31 RBI and 29 runs offensively, and a 3.59 ERA, 65.2 innings and 57 strikeouts on the mound. This group also bears the final graduate from the 2016 NCAA DII National Championship roster and a represents a program that has won 115 games in the four years since. The 2020 Sharks went 11-11 this season and were cut short right at the beginning of their rise. NSU had won both Sunshine State Conference series against two of the league’s top contenders – on the road – and had won five of their last seven games. The Sharks ranked fourth nationally in stolen bases and 14th in double plays and were right on the verge of making their move after overcoming a challenging start – climbing back into the national rankings at No. 23 in the last poll.
