Nova Southeastern Athletics Suspends Activities Until Further Notice

All athletics teams immediately cease competition, practices and related activities

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Effective immediately, Nova Southeastern University has suspended all athletic competition, practices and related activities until further notice, in response to the evolving COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation.

Statement from Nova Southeastern Director of Athletics Michael Mominey:

“With the safety, health and welfare of our student-athletes, our staff and our entire Shark family we have made the decision to suspend all athletic competition, practices and related activities. This decision is in the best interest of all parties and is aligned with President Hanbury’s and Nova Southeastern University’s directive and supports the values of the university.”

NSU’s approach aligns with a near-nationwide approach to this public health situation in intercollegiate athletics. On March 12, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the 2020 NCAA basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA Championships. Per the NCAA statement, this decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, the NCAA’s ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.

The University has established a website that offers the latest information and guidance to the Nova Southeastern community. For more the complete communication shared with the NSU community containing additional details, please go to: NSU CORONAVIRUS / COVID-19 UPDATES
