No. 5 Sharks Earn Third SSC Sweep of the Week at No. 18 Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – Saturday’s Sunshine State Conference road match at No. 18 Florida Southern (1-4, 0-1 SSC) marked a key early victory for No. 5 Nova Southeastern women’s tennis (7-0, 4-0 SSC), as well as the third straight conference win of the week. The win also marked the fifth sweep in seven matches this season.

DOUBLES

  • Although the Sharks were not able to knock down all three doubles wins, they earned the pair for the team point, starting with the NCAA’s No. 1 pair, Natalie Espinal and Sara Wardenburg, topping Flor Salerno and Minnie Kim in the first flight, 6-2.
  • In the second flight, Daniela Obando and Tingting Pei defeated Magda Stepnik and Laura Vetter to capture the point with a 6-4 win.

SINGLES

  • At No. 5 singles, Wardenbug kept the Sharks rolling, topping Isabella Bolivar 6-2, 6-0 to earn the first NSU singles win.
  • Pei followed in the fourth flight with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Stepnik.
  • NCAA No. 4 Espinal (NSU) defeated Vetter, 6-0, 7-5 to clinch the match for the Sharks.
  • No. 38 Obando put away Kim, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
  • Rounding out the afternoon, Karolina Snita topped Salerno in the twos, 6-3, 4-6, 10-2 in the tiebreaker, while Celia Montero Estevan closed things out with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 tiebreaker victory over Lola Asis.
