No. 2 Barry Ends Lynn Men’s Tennis’s 2019 Campaign in NCAA South Region Championship

Miami Shores, Fla. – A near miss on the momentum-garnering doubles point put the No. 9 Lynn University men’s tennis team in a hole its couldn’t overcome on Sunday as the Fighting Knights fell 4-0 to second-ranked and top-seeded Barry University in the NCAA South Region #1 Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

·         Things were looking great for the Fighting Knights right out of the gates as Lynn led early in all three doubles bouts. The Blue and White secured the first pairs win, but Barry stole the last two flights to garner the point.

·         Lynn’s Gabriel Hocevar and Lucca Baptista logged a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.

·         The Bucs fired back with a 6-4 triumph at the second flight.

·         The doubles point came down the No. 1 matchup with Barry coming from behind and taking the intense contest in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-6).

·         Barry tallied three straight-set wins in singles action to wrap up the 4-0 decision.

·         Kay Bartmann won his opening set at the top singles flight over the seventh-ranked player in the country.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

·         Lynn is the No. 4 seed in the NCAA South Region Tournament with Barry claiming the top seed and hosting right for the South Region #1 bracket.

·         Three of Lynn’s four losses this season have come at the hands of Barry (regular season, Sunshine State Conference Tournament Final, South Region Final).

·         Lynn’s four losses this season marks the lowest for the program since 2012.

·         The Lynn men’s tennis program has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 17 consecutive years.

·         Lynn has made it to at least the NCAA South Region Championship round in three straight seasons.

·         All six of Barry’s singles player are nationally ranked.

·         Barry hasn’t lost to an NCAA Division II school this season.

·         In his four-year tenure at Lynn, Jose Porfirio Ordonez finishes with a career singles record of 51-22 and an astounding 63-24 record in doubles action.

·         In three years at Lynn, Bartmann finishes with a 36-22 career singles record and a 49-20 career doubles record. Florian Clemares concludes with a 38-25 career singles record with a 38-28 career doubles tally.
