No. 14 Sailing Dominates SAISA Women’s Open

Skipper and crew Marina Barzaghi and Carolina Rovira won the event

TAMPA, Sept. 10, 2019 – The No. 14 USF sailing team opened the 2019 season by co-hosting the 2019 SAISA Women’s Open with Eckerd College. The Bulls dominated the event, with first-time teammates Marina Barzaghi and Carolina Rovira winning the event.

Close behind were Katie Bornarth and Sam Kappaz finishing third, combining with the first place Bulls to give USF the team victory. USF’s win qualified the Bulls for the prestigious Women’s Showcase Semifinals, hosted by Brown University and Connecticut College on Sept. 28-29.

“Delaney Brown, Sydney Monahan, Liv Smith, and Lily Theisen were the alternates and instrumental in keeping the team fired-up,” said head coach Allison Jolly. “The first half of the day was sailed in a light southerly then the westerly seabreeze filled in for the remainder of the racing.”

The Bulls are looking forward to an upcoming scrimmage with top-10 ranked Stanford next weekend.
