Nike® #HLMBB Players of the Week (November 30)

INDIANAPOLIS – UIC’s RayQuawndis Mitchell made a dazzling debut for the Flames as he averaged 17.5 points and hit eight 3-pointers to lead the Flames to a pair of victories to earn Nike® #HLMBB Player of the Week, while Marques Warrick of Northern Kentucky earned a start in his collegiate debut as he collected 14 points, four boards and four assists to help the Norse win their season opener to be named Nike® #HLMBB Freshman of the Week as the Horizon League announced its first men’s basketball weekly honors of the 2020-21 season on Monday.

RayQuawndis Mitchell | UIC | Junior | Guard | Atlanta, Ga.
Mitchell shined in his first two games with the Flames as he averaged a team-best 17.5 points per game including hitting eight 3-pointers as the Flames start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2007-08. In UIC’s season opener against Northern Illinois, Mitchell hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 16.6 seconds remaining to give the Flames a 61-60 lead after trailing by 22 points in the second half en route to the 65-61 victory. Mitchell tied for the team-high with 12 points thanks to 4-for-10 shooting from long distance. The junior followed that performance with a game-high 23 points in the Flames’ 74-72 win over Central Michigan. The Atlanta native was 6-for-10 shooting, including a blistering 4-for-5 from 3-point range. For the week, Mitchell shot 43.5 percent from the field including an impressive 53.3 percent mark from 3-point range (8-15). Mitchell added seven total rebounds, three assists and one block and a steal in the two wins.

#HLMBB Freshman of the Week
Marques Warrick | Northern Kentucky | Freshman | Guard | Lexington, Ky.

Warrick made his collegiate debut in the starting five for the Norse on Wednesday and helped lead NKU to a season-opening win against Ball State, 74-73. The Lexington, Ky. native tallied 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal in 35 minutes of action. He also only had one turnover in the contest, posting an impressive 4:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
