New Cajun restaurant opens in Hollywood

People who want Cajun and Creole food should visit Chateau de Thierry, the Harrison Street restaurant and event venue where visitors to Downtown Hollywood can now come for a taste of New Orleans.

Business owner Dee Howard wasn’t even thinking about opening a restaurant last year, when she came upon the large and beautiful space at 2029 Harrison Street.

“I was actually looking for an office for my home-based event planning business,” she explained. “But when I saw this space I said to myself ‘God is calling me to get these weddings done here,’ and it all fell into place.”

Howard actually got into the event business by chance as well. The now-retired Miami-Dade Public school administrator has four children and a big house, and “people were always asking me if they could have their weddings there,” she said.

She said yes, and it turned out that she loved creating events. The home business grew, she needed office space and so was born Chateau de Thierry restaurant and the Celebration Central brand.

Chateau de Thierry is a Cajun-Creole restaurant and celebration venue, housed in a dramatic and open space. The menu, said Howard, recreates the flavors and ambiance of her childhood. Her family is from Louisiana and the name Thierry is a family name as well.

Chateau de Thierry can accommodate parties of up to 300 guests.

Some of the favorites at Chateau de Thierry include authentic New Orleans gumbo at $15, jambalaya for $18.50, and crab boil for $29. The restaurant also offers a New Orleans-style Sunday brunch at $29 prix fixe or a la carte, with such goodies as fresh handmade New Orleans-style beignets at $3.99 and a crawfish omelet for $8.99.

Chateau de Thierry restaurant is open from Monday to Friday 4:30pm to 11pm, with a Happy Hour from 4:30pm to 8pm and dinner served from 6pm to 10pm. Brunch on Sunday runs from 12:30pm to 3:30pm, and there’s also a breakfast on the go, available for pick up only, on Mondays to Fridays from 7:30am to 10:30am.
