New bakery opens in Hollywood

Veronica Herszkowicz has always been a baker. As a full-time, stay-at-home mother, she began baking at home and doing local catering. She then started supplying her baked goods, both sweet and savory, to restaurants around South Florida.

The South American native, who has been in South Florida for nearly 20 years said, “when there were too many boxes filling the house, we decided to move here.”

“Here” is the new Verocca Bakery at 2031 Tyler Street in Downtown Hollywood, an intimate space in the front selling Veronica’s start-to-finish-homemade baked goods, with a vast space in the back which houses the bakery where Verocca produces kosher foods for their retail and wholesale customers.

“This store is perfect for us, the space is very good for both parts of our business,” said Herszkowicz, “and we think that Hollywood is the perfect place to help us grow our retail business.”

The Argentinian-style, kosher bakery offers up such food items as cookies, cakes, breads, pies, croissants, empanadas, soups, and quiches. Also available are coffees, teas and other drinks, and creative gluten-free options. On Fridays, they offer fresh-baked challahs.

For the holiday season, Verocca Bakery offers large holiday cookies at $4 each, and a variety of cakes and pies that start at $25. Most are made to order from customer-selected flavors and ingredients. Home baked breads range from $.89 for individual rolls, to $7.99 for the challahs.

Verocca Bakery is open Mondays to Thursdays from 7:30 am to 6 pm, and Fridays from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, and Sundays from 9 am to 3 pm.
