Cleveland, Tenn. – Lynn University’s women’s golf team shot a tournament-best 290 to jump five positions and take the overall lead after the second round of the NCAA Division II Women’s South Regional Tournament.  Helen Kreuzer moved into a share of the individual lead while both Kristina Ortiz and Matilda Wahren jumped into the top-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

·         The Blue and White shot two-over as a team and has a score of 591 after 36-holes, three shots better than second place Saint Leo (594).  Limestone (597) and Barry (598) are holding on to third and fourth with Florida Tech (600) knocking on the door.

·         Kreuzer had a clean scorecard on day two, knocking down three birdies with 15 pars for a three-under 69.  She leaped four players and is tied with Saint Leo’s Isabel Nesteus for first place at two-under par overall.  Kreuzer was even through her first nine holes before draining birdies on three of the next six holes.

·         Ortiz and Wahren matched each other’s scores for the second consecutive day, each heading to the clubhouse with a one-under 71s and tied for seventh.

·         Warhen nearly had the second clean scorecard after birdieing two of her first six holes and then sinking 11 straight pars only to make a bogey on her final hole.

·         Ortiz was even through 12 holes before bogeying her 13th hole.  She would got on a three-hole run of birdies before a bogey on the final green.

·         Cristina Gutierrez and Amber Lee Svendsen also matched scores, logging rounds of 79 apiece.

BEYOND THE SCORECARD:

·         The top four teams, and four individuals from non-qualifying teams, advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship.

·         Lynn’s 290 is its second lowest score of the season (286 in final round of the Barry Women’s Invite).

·         Kreuzer is one of three golfers to be under par for the tournament.

·         Ten golfers shot par or better in the second round compared to only four on day one. 

·         Lynn is the only school to have three golfers shoot under par for a single round in this tournament.

·         The Fighting Knights lead the field in total pars (121) and par 4 scoring (+26) and is second in par 5 scoring (+1) and third in par 3 scoring (+5).

·         Wahren shares the lead of total pars (27) with three additional golfers while Kreuzer is next with 26.

·         Lynn has won the NCAA Regional twice in its history, taking first in back-to-back seasons (2013-14).

·         Kreuzer is vying to become the second golfer in program history to win the NCAA Regional.  Ellen Chambers was co-medalist in 2014.
