Moves Being Made Even on the Eve of Training Camp

By: Jeremy T. Ballreich

Brad Holmes not content to see when Jameson Williams returns to add some depth and speed to the wide receiver room. He reaches out and grabs another speedster with very little given up in draft capital at all.

Densely Mins the 59th pick in the 2021 draft was not happy about his situation in New York with the Jets and was placed on the trade block. If he went on to Waivers, the Lions were 18th in the waiver wire with the draft order.

So instead of waiting to see if they can get him. The Lions sent a conditional 6th round pick in exchange for Mims with a conditional 7th round pick on the same 2025 draft.

Denzel Mims showed promise coming out of Baylor with a blazing 40 time of 4.38. At 6’2″ 207 pounds. He also flashes some contested catch ability.  But injuries and lack luster QB play has hindered him.

Upon the trade being completed. The first person to call Denzel Mims from the Lions was none other than starting QB Jared Goff, welcoming him to the team.

Mims immediately requested the playbook, and said on the flight to Detroit absorbed by studying all the way in.

That shows because with the first two days of training camp in the books. Mims is already flashing some talent to be better than his numbers with the Jets.

His QBs he’s played with: Sam Darnold, Josh Johnson, Zach Wilson  Joe Flacco, Mike White, and Chris Streveler. Funny but had his best chemistry and production with Streveler last season.

Jared Goff is head and shoulders above any of these guys right now. And without the stress of being the guy. Gets to be teammates with the 2nd best receiver draft 53 spots behind him in that same draft, Amon-Ra St. Brown.
