Motor City Cruise Clinch Spot in Showcase Cup Tournament

DETROIT – With their win over the Cleveland Charge on Friday, the Cruise clinched a spot in the Showcase Cup Tournament that will be held in Las Vegas from December 19-22 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Games will be announced at a later time.

              The Showcase Cup Tournament will consist of eight teams and be a single-elimination format where the winning team will be awarded a trophy and monetary prize. The top eight teams were decided after a 12-game schedule to open the season, a new format the G League introduced for the 2021-22 season. The Cruise finished 8-4 in their 12 games, including a four-game winning streak to close it out. The Cruise will be joined by the Wisconsin Herd, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Delaware Blue Coats, Maine Celtics, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, South Bay Lakers, and the Oklahoma City Blue.

              The Cruise, led by head coach DJ Bakker, were fueled by an outstanding start from Saben Lee. He was named Player of the Month for November, along with Player of the Week for the week of November 5. Lee led the G League in scoring, averaging 30.6 points, and was fourth in assists, averaging 7.4 per game. The Cruise found success on the road with a 5-1 record while going 3-3 at home.
