MOTOR CITY CRUISE ACQUIRE JAMIE ECHENIQUE VIA TRADE FROM THE CAPITAL CITY GO-GO IN EXCHANGE FOR GUARD JULES BERNARD

DETROIT, MI – The Motor City Cruise announced this afternoon they acquired center Jamie Echenique from the Capital City Go-Go in exchange for guard Jules Bernard.

              Echenique (6’11”, 258 Ibs) went undrafted in the NBA in 2020 and was signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Washington Wizards. 

The Barranquilla, Colombia native helped lead Capital City to a 20-8 record last season, scoring 36 points on 3/30 at Fort Wayne.  He played 28 games (all starts) during the 2021-22 regular season and averaged 17.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game with the Capital City Go-Go. Earlier that season, he grabbed 19 rebounds in a game against the Grand Rapids Gold and against the Cruise last season, Echenique grabbed a season high of eight offensive rebounds (2/13).

This season, Echenique has played five games with the Wizards this past Summer, averaging 10.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He started two of those games, and in his first start, he dropped 17 points against the Golden State Warriors (7/17).

Prior to the NBA, the former Wichita State Shocker averaged 9.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per game in his NCAA career.

              In exchange for Echenique, the Motor City Cruise traded Jules Bernard to the Go-Go.  In 17 games (five starts) for the Cruise this season, Bernard has averaged 10.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 23.0 minutes per game.
