Moorespeed’s Riley Dickinson Earns Second Place IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup USA by Yokohama Finish at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta Saturday

BRASELTON, Georgia (September 5, 2020) – Moorespeed’s Riley Dickinson pulled out to an early lead during Saturday’s IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama race, staying in front for 22 laps and turning the fastest lap of the race before finishing second in the No. 53 Moorespeed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. The 18-year-old Dickinson opened up an early lead of more than a second after a fantastic start from pole position in the No. 53 Moorespeed Porsche, turning the fastest lap of the race on lap nine of 1:23.873 (109.021 mph) around the 12-turn, 2.45-mile track. The early pace in the Moorspeed Porsche was strong, with Dickinson turning new fastest race laps on laps two, three, four, five and again on lap nine.
Unfortunately, and unknown to Dickinson and the team until IMSA technical inspection after the race, a left-rear damper issue slowed the car enough to lose the lead on lap 22. Dickinson’s early pace had built enough of a gap to hang of for a second-place finish in the 45-minute timed race.
“It’s not the result that we wanted, but we’ll take second place,” Moorespeed President David Moore said. “We had really good pace in the first half of the race, but then the car started to fall off. Now we know why. In post-race technical inspection, IMSA checked the shocks on all cars and they were the ones who told us our left rear wasn’t working. Riley managed to do the best he could under the situation. I’m proud of him. We got good points today, we’re making that fix, and we’ll come back out tomorrow swinging.”

The lap nine fast lap was good enough to keep Dickinson on the pole position for Sunday’s race. The finish moves Dickinson to second in the Championship standings following five of 16 races, 12 points behind Saturday’s race winner Jeff Kingsley.
“All in all I’m happy with my performance, but in the end we didn’t end up with the result due to the issue on the left rear,” Dickinson said. “The Moorespeed team prepared a great car, ultimately luck just wasn’t on our side today. It’s all good though, we know that we have the pace and tomorrow is a new day. Can’t wait to get on track tomorrow!”
Dickinson gets a second chance at the podium on Sunday morning, with the weekend’s final 45-minute IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup race beginning at 8 a.m. EDT. Live streaming is available at www. IMSA.tv.
