MIAMI MARLINS MAKE 10 SELECTIONS ON DAY 3 OF 2023 MLB FIRST-YEAR PLAYER DRAFT

Marlins complete the 2023 MLB Draft with 14 pitchers, 4 outfielders, 2 infielders, 1 two-way player, highlighted by No. 10 overall selection RHP Noble Meyer

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today completed the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft, making 10 selections on Day 3. Of the 21 overall selections by Miami in the Draft, 13 were pitchers and 18 overall came from the collegiate ranks.

On Day 1 of the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft, the Marlins selected RHP Noble Meyer with the 10th overall selection, LHP Thomas White with the 35th overall selection, and OF Kemp Alderman with the 47th overall selection. Meyer, a right-handed pitcher out of Jesuit HS (Ore.), and White, a left-handed pitcher out of Phillips Academy HS (Mass.), are each considered top prep pitching arms in their class, while the University of Mississippi product Alderman possesses raw hitting power.

The Club’s first selection on Day 2 was 1B Brock Vradenburg from Michigan State University in the third round (78th overall), who was a semifinalist for both the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award and USBWA Dick Howser Trophy. Vradenburg posted a .400 batting average with 22 doubles, 13 home runs, and 69 RBI in 55 games with the Michigan State Spartans during his junior season in 2023. The 6-foot-7 first baseman ranked 2nd in the Big Ten in batting average and 3rd with his .492 on-base percentage. The Pasadena, Calif. native became the second MSU Baseball student-athlete to earn Academic and Athletic All-American honors in the same season.

Of Miami’s 10 selections on Day 3, nine came from the collegiate ranks, highlighted by LHP Jack Sellinger out of the UNLV with the 14th round (413th overall) pick. Sellinger, 23, made 18 relief appearances with the Rebels in 2023 and posted a 3.46 ERA, striking out 64 batters over 39.0 innings (14.9 K/9).

Other Day 3 selections include RHP Jake Brooks from UCLA, RHP Josh Ekness from the University of Houston, RHP Colson Lawrence from the University of South Alabama, RHP Nigel Belgrave from the University of Maryland, LHP Kevin Vaupel from Seton Hill University, OF Mark Coley II from the University of Rhode Island, LHP Tristan Dietrich from Owen J. Roberts HS (PA), 3B Johnny Olmstead from the University of Southern California, and OF/RHP Ryan Ignoffo from Eastern Illinois University.
