Castano made 12 appearances for Jupiter, going 0-2 with a 3.82 ERA in 33.0 innings, striking out 31. He earned a promotion to Jacksonville on May 27 and went 7-2 with a 3.35 ERA in 18 games (11 Starts), striking out 73 in 86.0 innings.

• Castano was a 19th round pick by St. Louis in 2016 and acquired by Miami with RHP Zac Gallen, RHP Sandy Alcantara and OF Magneuris Sierra from St. Louis in exchange for OF CAREER PITCHING

Marcell Ozuna on December 14, 2017. YEAR W-L ERA G GS 2019 (Minors) 7-4 3.48 30 11 IP 119.0 H 115 R ER BB 52 46 23 MARLINS MINUTE Coming a series opening win, the Miami Marlins will look keep their hot start to 2020 going against the New York Mets tonight in the second of three games at Citi Field. Miami will send left-hander Daniel Castano to the mound to make his Major League debut. He was 7-4 with a 3.48 ERA in 30 games (11 starts) between Advanced-A Jupiter and Double-A Jacksonville in 2019.

• According to Elias Sports Bureau, with Castano making the start today, the Marlins will become the first team in MLB history to play their first nine games of the season and not have a pitcher make more than one start, (Alcantara, C. Smith, Dugger, López, Hernandez, J.A. Smith, Yamamoto, Mejía, Castano). The previous record of eight was held by the 1904 Philadelphia Phillies, who started 2-5-1 and used 11 total pitchers in their first eight games. Miami has used 25 pitchers in its first eight games.

• With a win, the Marlins will have their first seven-game road win streak since April 24-30, 2016. The club record for most consecutive wins on the road is eight from July 16 – August 5, 1995.

• Miami can also tie its best nine-game start to a season at 8-1. The 2009 Marlins started the season 11-1.

LAST NIGHT Miami won it’s sixth game in a row on the back of a four-run second inning that featured a three-run homer from Francisco Cervelli. Humberto Mejía made his Major League debut, going 2.1 innings, striking out six. The Marlins bullpen worked 6.2 innings and allowed four hits and two runs to help close out a 4-3 victory, with Stephen Tarpley getting the win and Nick Vincent earning his first save since 2016.

ROAD WARRIORS Today is the 19th consecutive day the Marlins have spent away from Miami since leaving for two exhibition games in Atlanta on July 21. Once Miami finishes this series against the Mets, they will head to Buffalo for an off day and two games against the Toronto Blue Jays. In all, the Marlins will spend 23 days in a row on the road.

SCORE ONE MORE RUN THAN THE OTHER TEAM Miami has won four consecutive one-run games, tying the club record for most consecutive one-run wins on the road. With a one- run win tonight, they would tie the club record for consecutive one-run victories overall set August 8-13, 1999.

REVERSAL OF FORTUNE Coming off a 57-105 season, the Marlins are the first team to win at least seven of its first eight games after losing 105 or more the previous year since the St. Louis Perfectos, a team that featured Cy Young, began 7-1 in 1899 according to @StatsbySTATS. The Perfectos would finish the season 84-67, good for fifth in the National League. According to Elias Sports Bureau, Miami is just the third team MLB history to win seven of its first eight games, joining the Perfectos (7-1 after 39-111) and the 2003 Kansas City Royals (8-0 after 62-100).

ALLOW US TO INTRODUCE OURSELVES Last night’s starting pitcher Humberto Mejía was the eighth Marlin to make his Major League debut this season. He joins RHP Nick Neidert and LHP Alex Vesia from July 25 in Philadelphia, RHP Jordan Holloway from July 26 in Philadelphia, OF Monte Harrison from August 5 in Balitmore, RHP Sterling Sharp and INF Eddy Alvarez from August 6 in Baltimore, and RHP Jorge Guzman from August 7 in Baltimore.

• Today’s expected starting pitcher, LHP Daniel Castano, will also be making his Major League debut.

• According to Elias Sports Bureau, the last teams to have nine MLB debuts in their first nine games of a season were the Philadelphia Athletics (10) and Pittsburgh Pirates (9), both in 1954.

• Houston has also had eight players make their MLB debuts in its first eight games, but According to Elias Sports Bureau before 2020 no team since the 1955 Washington Senators had eight players make their MLB debuts in the first eight games of a season.

A LOT OF MOVEMENT Miami has made 58 roster moves since the season began on July 24, including at least one transaction a day for the last 10 days. The Marlins currently have 19 players on the Injured List and only have 13 players on the active roster who were on it on Opening Day.

• INF/OF Jonathan Villar, INF/OF Jon Berti, INF Brian Anderson, OF Corey Dickerson, INF Jesús Aguilar, C Francisco Cervelli, OF Magneuris Sierra, RHP Brad Boxberger, RHP Brandon Kintzler, LHP Stephen Tarpley, RHP Pablo López, RHP Sterling Sharp, and RHP Elieser Hernandez were on the Opening Day roster and remain on it today.

• Today, RHP Humberto Mejía was optioned to the Alternate Training Site and LHP Richard Bleier was placed on the 10-day Injured List (left triceps strain). LHP Brian Moran was recalled and SHP Pat Venditte had his contract selected.

A SPRINT AND AN OPPORTUNITY With a 60-game season, Miami is in a unique position to compete for an NL East title. This is the latest (August 8) the Marlins have held a share of first place in their division. Before this season, the Marlins had never spent a day in first place after June 27 in any season in franchise history. The 2004 Marlins were in first place with a 40-35 record, but finished the season in third in the NL East at 83-79. Last season, Miami was 39-63, in fifth place in the division and 21.5 games out of first place with 60 games remaining. The 2016 Marlins had the best 102-game start to a season with a 55-47 record, good for second place, five game back of first. They finished the season 79-82 and in third.

STRONG PIPELINE MLBPipeline.com released its Midseason Top 100 Prospects today with six Marlins making the list. Miami is tied with San Diego for most players in the top 100. RHP Sixto Sanchez (24), OF JJ Bleday (30), RHP Max Meyer (42), INF Jazz Chisholm (74), OF Jesus Sanchez (90) and RHP Edward Cabrera (96) were the Marlins group recognized by MLBPipeline.com. All six players are currently at the Marlins alternate site in Jupiter.
