Miami Dolphins re-sign Ahmed and Bailey

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have re-signed running back Salvon Ahmed and punter Jake Bailey.

Ahmed was awarded off waivers to Miami on Aug. 26, 2020 and has played 38 games with four starts during his four-year career (2020-23). He’s totaled 163 carries for 593 yards (3.6 avg.) and five touchdowns, while adding 40 receptions for 274 yards (6.9 avg.) and one touchdown. Ahmed also played in Miami’s AFC Wild Card game at Buffalo following the 2022 season. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with San Francisco on May 1, 2020 following a collegiate career at Washington.

Bailey joined the Dolphins on March 17, 2023 and played in all 17 regular-season games, as well as the AFC Wild Card game, totaling 53 punts for 2,424 yards (45.7 avg.) and a 40.7 net average. His 40.7 net punt average was fifth-best in single-season Dolphins history. Bailey is entering his sixth NFL season, having played in 75 career games. He originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (163rd overall) by New England in the 2019 NFL Draft and was named to the AFC Pro Bowl team in 2020 after he posted a league-best 45.6 net average. Bailey played collegiately at Stanford.

Miami Dolphins sign Brooks

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed linebacker Jordyn Brooks as an unrestricted free agent from Seattle.

Brooks is entering his fifth NFL season after spending the past four (2020-23) with Seattle. In each of the past three seasons (2021-23), he has totaled 100-plus tackles and 16-plus starts. During his career, Brooks has tallied 512 tackles (308 solo), 6.5 sacks, one interception, 16 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He’s also started one playoff game. Brooks originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick (27th overall) by Seattle in the 2020 NFL Draft following a collegiate career at Texas Tech.

Miami Dolphins sign Neal

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed cornerback Siran Neal.

Neal has played in 97 games with one start during six seasons (2018-23) with Buffalo. He’s also played in 10 playoff games. Neal has totaled 62 career tackles (42 solo), 1.0 sack, five passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also has 53 career special teams stops (43 solo). Neal originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (154th overall) by Buffalo in the 2018 NFL Draft. He played collegiately at Jacksonville State.

Miami Dolphins release Howard

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have released/failed physical cornerback Xavien Howard with a post-June 1 designation.

Howard was a second-round pick (38th overall) by Miami in the 2016 NFL Draft following a standout career at Baylor. He played in 100 career games with 99 starts over eight seasons (2016-23) with Miami and was selected to four Pro Bowls (2018, 2020-22). A two-time team captain (2022-23), Howard’s 29 career interceptions are tied for fourth in Dolphins history. His 95 passes defensed are second-most in team history since 1991, when the stat was first tracked.

Howard is a two-time recipient of the Dan Marino Team MVP Award. He earned the honor in 2020, when he had 10 interceptions, which led the NFL that season and tied the Dolphins single-season team record. Howard also was named Team MVP in 2018, when his seven interceptions tied the NFL lead. Since 2017, Howard’s 29 interceptions lead the league.

Miami Dolphins re-sign Jones

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have re-signed offensive lineman Robert Jones.

Jones joined the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 13, 2021. He’s played in 32 career games with 13 starts for Miami – nine at left guard, three at right guard and one at right tackle. Jones has also started two playoff games – one at left guard and one at right guard. He was a two-year starter (2019-20) at Middle Tennessee State, where he earned honorable mention All-Conference USA honors in both seasons.
