Miami Dolphins 2020 NFL Draft Notes – Day 1

DOLPHINS SELECT A FRANCHISE-RECORD THREE PLAYERS IN FIRST ROUND
  • This is the first time the Dolphins have ever selected three players in the first round of the same draft.
  • All three draft positions (5, 18 and 30) marked the first time Miami has ever picked a player in the first round at those spots. The only positions remaining in the first round the Dolphins have never selected are No. 6, 10, 31 and 32 overall.
  • This marks the sixth time the Dolphins have used multiple first-round picks in the same draft:

  • Tagovailoa is the 30th quarterback ever drafted in team history.
  • Tagovailoa helped Alabama come from behind for a thrilling win in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship Game. It marks the fifth consecutive season the Dolphins have drafted a player who won a national championship in his collegiate career.
  • Tagovailoa is the 10th player from the University of Alabama to be drafted by the Dolphins. There are 21 players from the school who have appeared in at least one regular-season game for the Dolphins.
JACKSON IS MIAMI’S PICK AT NO. 18
  • With the 18th overall pick, the Dolphins too T Austin Jackson from USC.
  • If he plays in a regular-season game, Jackson will become the 14th player in USC history to appear in a game for the Dolphins.
  • Jackson is the 116th offensive lineman to be drafted in Dolphins history. That’s the most of any position.
  • He is just the second USC player to be selected in the first round by Miami and only the second offensive lineman from USC to be drafted by the Dolphins. G Roy Foster was the 24th overall pick in the 1982 draft.
  • Jackson is the eighth Trojans player to be selected by Miami (not including DT Manuel Wright, who was a Supplemental Draft pick in 2005):

  • Igbinoghene is the 99th defensive back selected by the Dolphins in team history.

  • Igbinoghene is the eighth player in Auburn history to be drafted by the Dolphins, and the second in as many years as FB Chandler Cox was a seventh-round pick (233rd overall) by Miami in 2019:

QUICK HITS

  • Miami traded a 2020 first-round pick (26th overall) to Green Bay, who used the pick to select QB Jordan Love, for a 2020 first-round pick (30th overall) the Dolphins used to select CB Noah Igbinoghene and 2020 fourth-round pick (136th overall).
  • With today’s trade, the Dolphins now are scheduled to make 15 picks in the 2020 draft, which would be the most picks they’ve ever had in a seven round draft.
