MGolf – Sharks in Fourth after Round One at Saint Leo Invitational

DADE CITY, Fla. – The 17th ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Men’s Golf team began play at the Saint Leo Invitational on Monday, February 19th. Through one round of action, the Sharks (-6/286) are in fourth place, while Will McGhie is in third (-6/68). 

The second round of the tournament was not completed on Monday and will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

How it Happened
  • Will McGhie began his opening round with a birdie, totaling three birdies on his front-nine, finishing at 35 before the turn. On the back-nine, McGhie shot a bogey-free round, tallying three rounds and six pars, ending the round at four-under (68).
  • Joseba Torres (T9th/-2) nearly completed a bogey-free first round, recording nine consecutive pars on the front-nine, but bogeyed 10. Torres responded with three consecutive birdies on the back-nine and closed the round with four straight pars. 
  • Ivan Ponsdomenech ended his first round with a 73, but recorded an eagle on nine and closed the round with a birdie on 17. Ponsdomench was able to finish his second round and recorded six birdies, jumping up the leader board, into a tie for ninth place, with a 68. 
  • Michael Hay (T22nd/74) started the tournament with seven pars on the front-nine and began the back-nine with three  straight pars, followed by birdieing 13 and 15, before closing the round with back-to-back pars. 
  • Christian Munoz (T61st) and Jorge Berea (T87th) totaled five birdies in their opening round.
