“ME” Monday® 10-12-2020 Fear

FEAR. As defined in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary means, “an unpleasant often strong  emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger”

Are we in danger when we may need to speak in front of a large audience? Are we in danger when we are beginning a new job?

Are we in danger when we are afraid of what others might think?

These are examples of some things we may have felt fearful of at one time or another. That  fearful feeling can feel as real as the fear someone experiences when they get that phone call  that tells them they’ve been diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease!

Initially, we may feel a single, monumental feeling of terror and as we begin to deal with the  process of treatment, many other fears might start to trickle to the surface. We may feel  overwhelmed with so many fears of the unknown and have to decide what to do next.

So, how might it feel if we nourished our “inner warrior” and perceived FEAR as a simple speed  bump?

‘We can have more power to conquer these fears than we think’, says Dina Legland RN, CHC, CLC.

A couple of years ago, I had the unplanned honor of meeting my now dear friend and colleague,  Dina Legland. As a healthcare professional for the last 32 years practicing as a nurse, a first  responder with her local fire department, she is now also certified in health and life transformation. Dina is also a spouse, a mom, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a woman who  got THAT phone call 4 years ago and is celebrating her second anniversary in remission! To  honor that anniversary, she has permitted me to share some of her story.

She had to shun the distress of the call and discover the courage to conquer all the fears of  cancer, in addition to whatever life had already thrown her way. A few years before her  diagnosis, she saw her mother pass away from an unhealthy lifestyle, an M.S. disorder, and  being overweight. That was her motivation to kick the emotional eating habit, lose 110 pounds,  and begin an exercise regimen to create the healthiest life she could.

She thought, ‘how could she have transformed her daily routine to such a healthy one and still  get that diagnosis?’

She shared with me that all the effort she put into acclimating to a healthy lifestyle was what  empowered her to become a warrior against her cancer. She conquered one battle at a time and  developed her powerful system declaring her purpose and mission to help others conquer their  fear and become the Wellness Warrior for Life that she herself has become. That is exactly what  she chose to name her company!

Over the past year and a half, Dina has been following Itz Why’s “ME” Monday® sharing the  importance of scheduling “ME” time with her clients. The health value “ME” time can provide to  support our immune system can be a key element as we journey through each battle against the  disease, Dina shares. I whole-heartedly agree!

Breast cancer and other potentially fatal diseases, not unlike COVID, don’t discriminate against  us by our age, physical condition, specific medical situations, lifestyle, mindfulness, and  attitude. It can affect anyone, even men. Though we need to adhere to safety protocols because  of COVID, Dina emphasizes the fact that cancer doesn’t cease while these rules are in place.

So, don’t let the fear of the virus stop you from regular mammograms and breast checks or any  other necessary medical visits. If someone we know is struggling with the fear of disease and  wants to learn more about Dina’s work, send a private message.

If you’re not sure, you might want to hear what a true “Wellness Warrior for Life” has to say!  We will be LIVE on Facebook later today, “ME” Monday®!

We agree “ME” time is a large part of self-responsibility. It is never too late to start. The  healthier you live now, the stronger a warrior you can become.

A special thanks to a dear friend and warrior! Itz Why® and “ME” Monday® readers honor you  and highlight breast cancer awareness especially for you!
