1/29/2024 | No. 20 Men’s Basketball

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Johnell Davis, junior guard for the No. 20 Florida Atlantic’s men’s basketball team (17-4, 7-1 AAC), has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday. This marks Davis’ second player of the week award of the season.

Davis guided the Owls on both sides of the ball to a 2-0 week, averaging 21.0 points per game in addition to 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals on 48% shooting from the field and 54.5% from downtown.

Against Rice, Davis tallied 14 points to go with nine rebounds. He would follow this up with a statement performance against North Texas, scoring 28 of FAU’s 66 points with a career-high-tying six three-pointers. With 10 seconds left and the game tied at 63, Davis would keep the ball in his hands and find his way to the left wing where he drilled the shot from beyond the arc with just 0.4 seconds left on the clock to give the Owls their sixth-straight win.
