MBB: David Collins Tabbed The American Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas, DEC. 14, 2020 – On the heels of averaging a double-double and leading South Florida to a pair of wins last week, USF senior guard David Collins (Youngstown, Ohio) was selected as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday

Collins averaged 15.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game last week in victories over Stetson and Wofford. Collins was also extremely efficient from the field, shooting 58.3 percent from the floor and 60.0 percent from three-point range. 

Collins began the week with a game-high 18 points and made eight of his 10 shots from the field in leading USF to a 73-62 victory over Stetson. His scoring performance upped his career total to 1,333 points and moved him into 14th place on the league’s all-time scoring list. Collins also finished with a game-high nine rebounds and four assists against the Hatters.

On Saturday against Wofford, Collins scored a team-high 13 points and added a career-best 11 rebounds to register his first ever double-double. Collins also delivered three assists as USF rallied for a 58-56 win against the Terriers.

Collins and the Bulls return to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. when USF opens league play at Cincinnati.

The USF men’s basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory. On March 22, 2017, Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history. He previously led programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). USF has retired three numbers in its 47-year history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids, appeared in the NIT eight times and won the 2019 College Basketball Invitational.
