MATCH RECAP: Inter Miami CF Narrowly Falls On the Road Against FC Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (April 1, 2023) – Inter Miami CF (2W-4L-D0, 6 pts) narrowly fell 1-0 against FC Cincinnati on Saturday night at TQL Stadium.

“We’re a team that’s playing with so much belief, we’re a team that’s got great quality. The results aren’t going our way, that’s the frustration bit, that’s the bit that we need to stop. That’s the bit that we need to focus on, but we’re not a team that’s wobbling, we’re a team that’s playing with full of confidence,” said head coach Phil Neville.

Inter Miami started the match with two changes to its starting XI. Drake Callender remained in goal; DeAndre Yedlin, Sergii Kryvtsov, Chris McVey and Franco Negri lined up in defense; Jean Mota and Bryce Duke formed the team’s double pivot in midfield with Nicolás Stefanelli, Robert Taylor and Rodolfo Pizarro in front of them; Josef Martínez led the team in attack.

The first half at TQL Stadium presented an even matchup, with both sides probing the opposition’s defense in search of generating danger. Inter Miami created several good opportunities in attack throughout the half, but missed the finishing touch in the final third.

In the 35th minute a penalty was called in favor of Inter Miami following a foul on Pizarro, but the decision was overturned by the referee after consulting with VAR.

It seemed as if the match would go into the half scoreless, but the hosts were able to open the scoring just before through a header by Yerson Mosquera from a corner in added time.

The second half proceedings presented another back and forth 45 minutes of action with both teams active on the offensive end. Inter Miami came close to finding the equalizer on several occasions. In particular, defender Negri unleashed a powerful long distance left footed strike that hit the crossbar in the 65th minute.

Despite the visitors’ efforts to level the game, the scoreboard remained until the final whistle and FC Cincinnati claimed a 1-0 win.

Inter Miami will now return home to South Florida for its next match, with the team set to host FC Dallas at DRV PNK Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 8.
