BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University’s Alijah Martin has been named Conference USA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Martin takes him his first career weekly honor after a strong three games for FAU.
Martin had a big week in FAU’s 3-0 stretch that included wins over Florida, Bryant and Detroit Mercy. The sophomore guard averaged 12.6 points per game along with 6 boards per game. Martin also shot 43% from 3-point range. He has posted double-digit scoring figures in the last four games for the Owls and is averaging 12.6 points per game to rank second on the team. Martin is the Owls’ leading rebounder with a clip of 5.8 boards per game on the young season.
In the historic win over Florida, Martin scored 11 points and hit 3-of-4 from 3-point range. He made a massive bucket that held up as the Owl dagger with a 3-pointer to go ahead 74-67 with 1:38 to go. Martin also added six rebounds and a pair of steals in the upset win over the Gators.
In the win over Bryant, Martin tallied 15 points along with a team-high nine rebounds. Martin finished the week strong with 12 points in only 18 minutes for the Owls in the 21-point victory over Detroit Mercy.
Martin has been a key part to FAU’s 4-1 start which is the team’s best since 2018-19, the first under head coach Dusty May.
