M-GOLF | Owls Move Up, Sturdza in Contention at AAC Championship

4/20/2024 | Men’s GolfBELLEAIR, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men’s golf (+10) moved up six spots into sixth place at the American Conference Championship on Saturday. Max Sturdza’s round of five-under 65 vaulted the fifth-year senior into contention entering Sunday’s final round.
Quick HitsSturdza circled seven birdies on Saturday highlighted by a flurry at the tail end of his second nine. Starting on the back nine, he made the turn in one-under and balanced a birdie and a bogey at the first and fourth holes (his 10th and 13th holes of the day). The Geneva, Switzerland native caught fire at that point and birdied four straight (five, six, seven, and eight) to move up 26 spots into fifth place.Entering Sunday’s final round, Sturdza (-3) is just two shots off the lead in the race for medalist honors. USF’s Jack Peacock, the second-highest ranked player in the field behind Sturdza, leads at -5.Freshman Andres Atrio had the Owls’ second-best round on Saturday. Atrio tied his career best with a 68 that included four birdies.
