Lynn Women’s Tennis Ends Fall Play at ITA Cup

Rome, Ga. – The fall season forLynn University’s women’s tennis duo Ulyana Grib and Valeryia Pogrebnyak came to a close with a victory in the back draw of the 2019 ITA Cup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Grib and Pogrebnyak battled with Azusa Pacific’s Petra Ivankovic and Anna Savchenko over three sets, eventually winning 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.

QUOTABLE:

“Ulyana and Valeryia showed their character bouncing back from yesterday’s result. We are proud of their effort this week and look forward to the spring season now.” – head coach Mike Perez.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • This is Lynn’s first trip back to the ITA Cup since placing third in 2017. 
  • The Fighting Knights had won back-to-back women’s doubles titles in 2015 and 2016 while winning singles titles in 2013-14. 
  • Marie Barbier and Monika Mastalirova also won in 2003. 
  • Each of the four divisional champions (Divisions II, III, NAIA and JUCO) will be automatically entered in the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place at the Newport Beach Tennis Club & The Tennis Club at Newport Beach Country Club in Newport Beach, CA. 
  • Three of the top four seeds in the tournament fell in the quarterfinals.  Only Indianapolis’ fourth-seeded Nikol Alekseeva and Anna Novikova advanced.
