US Amateur Championship

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University women’s golf alumna Jenny Ayala has qualified for the United States Women’s Amateur Championship following a fourth place finish in qualifying at the Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Ayala is now one of 156 competitors to compete at the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss., beginning on Aug. 5.  The low 64 scorers after 36 holes of stroke play will advance to match play on Aug. 7, with the field slowly whittled down to the final two in the championship on Aug. 11.

The four-year letterwinner birdied her first two holes on the day but then ran into trouble with bogeys on four of her next seven holes.  A bogey on No. 13 put her three-over par but the Bogota, Colombia, native chipped in for a birdie on No. 16 and then reached the par 5 green in two and two putted to bring her to one-over.  A par on No. 18 gave her a one-over 73 and locked her in to one of five qualifying spots.

Ayala starred for Lynn from 2014-18, earning Second Team All-America and All-Sunshine State Conference laurels as a senior.  She ranks in the top-10 of program history for rounds played (4th), stroke average (6th) and top-10 finishes (T-7th).

The 2019 US Women’s Amateur begins Monday, Aug. 5, in West Point, Miss.  For more information, check out USGA.org.
