Lynn Softball Salvages Split with PBA

West Palm Beach, Fla. – Lynn University’s softball team saw its bats come alive in the second half of a twin bill, falling 6-0 and winning 9-8 against Palm Beach Atlantic.  Mia Veliz tied the single-season program record for stolen bases while every member of the starting lineup recorded hits in game two.

STATS OF THE GAME: 

  • Game 1 
    • Lynn managed only two hits in the loss
    • Shayle Arenson and Natalie Costero each went 1-for-3. 
    • Olivia Saviskas received the nod in the circle, tossing her second complete game of the season while allowing six runs, five earned, on only four hits. 
    • Two Sailfish pitchers combined for the shutout with Katherine Budnovich picking up the win with four scoreless innings of relief. 
  • Game 2 
    • The Fighting Knights put together 13 hits and built a 9-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.  PBA strung together six runs butSaviskas stranded the tying run at second base. 
    • Four players logged multiple hits: Arenson (2-for-5), Kayla Sheffield (2-for-3), Britney Purser (2-for-3) and Sophia Devesa (2-for-2). 
    • Sheffield drove in two runs while Elizabeth Diaz added three RBIs. 
    • Purser and Makayla Caballero each scored twice. 
    • Sheffield (8-10) collected the win with six innings of work.  She allowed five runs, four earned on eight hits.  Saviskas surrendered three runs on three hits in one inning of relief. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE: 

  • Veliz swiped her 16th stolen base, tying the program mark held by Danielle McNeill (2014). 
  • Every starter in game two collected at least one hit.
  • Mackenzie Wyatt stole her third base of the season, setting a new career-high. 
  • Lynn has 31 stolen bases, fifth-most for a single-season in program history.   
  • Diaz’s three RBIs gives her a team-high 15 on the year.  She is also second to Arenson with seven doubles, which is a new career-high. 
  • Arenson collected hits in every game of the series and has hit safely in 11 of the last 14 games. 
  • Lynn’s nine runs are the most for the team since a 9-0 victory over Barry on March 6 and snaps a string of five consecutive games of one or less runs scored.
