Lynn Softball Inks Eight for 2019-20 Incoming Class

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University head softball coach Jill Moore has locked in her first recruiting class with eight incoming players set to join the squad for the 2019-20 year. The Fighting Knights will welcome two junior transfers and six freshmen to a squad which lost just two seniors off last season’s team.

“I am excited about the overall versatility this class brings to our team,” said Moore. “We have created immediate depth defensively while our offense has gained power and speed throughout the lineup.”

Grasy Gomez

Junior | C

Pembroke Pines, Fla. | Broward College | Pembroke Pines Charter HS

Gomez will be counted on to be a leader with the Fighting Knights following a two-year career at Broward College. She led the team in her sophomore season with a .348 average, five home runs and 12 runs scored with 13 runs batted in to garner Second Team All-Southern Conference recognition.

From the coaches: “Grasy is bringing two years of experience and maturity behind the plate to our pitching staff. She is going to be an integral piece to our defense and offense.”

Emily Yakel

Junior | C

Gainesville, Fla. | Santa Fe College | Buchholz HS

Yakel has power to go around after two seasons with a combined 19 home runs at Santa Fe College. The two-time All-Mid-Florida Conference selection hit .302 for her career while driving in 71 runs. Defensively, she threw out 12 runs attempting to steal.

From the coaches: “Emily’s work ethic is going to be contagious. She is going to bring power and consistency to our lineup and behind the plate she can keep opponents honest on the base paths.”

Lexi Butler

Freshman | IF\OF

Wellington, Fla. | Wellington HS

Butler joins the Blue and White after a standout high school career at Wellington High School where she was twice named a Palm Beach Post All-Conference selection and garnered Sun-Sentinel All-County Second Team accolades. Butler helped Wellington HS to a runner-up finish in the Class 7A Florida High School Athletic Association State Tournament.

From the coaches: “Lexi covers so much grass in the outfield, I can’t wait to challenge her with fly balls at practice. She has the speed our team needs and is very versatile from the left side.”

Ashley Davis

Freshman | IF

Parrish, Fla. | Palmetto HS

Davis was a four-year starter at Palmetto High School and helped the Tigers to a 16-11 overall record in 2019 while recording 10 runs batted in and 12 runs scored.

From the coaches: “Ashley is going to be a great defensive presence at the corners but more notably third base. She has a great love of the game and leaves it all on the dirt.”

Bailey Fernandez

Freshman | C

Deltona, Fla. | South Lake HS

Fernandez was a four-year varsity starter at South Lake High School. She batted under .400 just once in her four seasons, culminating in a .544 batting average as a senior, which ranked her 11^th in Class 7A of the FHSAA. She received Daily Commercial All-Area Honorable Mention accolades in addition to finishing T-23^rd in total hits and T-28^th in doubles in Class 7A. She left the Eagles ranking first in batting average, home runs, runs batted in, slugging, hits and doubles over her four years.

From the coaches: “Bailey has the potential to be a huge offense threat in our lineup. She swings it big and is going to help our pitchers behind the plate and may even see time at first base.”

Aymee Godmaire

North Delta, British Columbia, Canada | Ecole Bursnview Secondary

Godmaire looks to become the next great Lynn softball from our neighbor to the north. Hailing from the same region as alum Francais Olexa, Godmaire has the flexibility to play multiple positions. She also earned the top second baseman honors at the 2017 U16 Girls Canadian Fastpitch Championships.

From the coaches: “Aymee is bringing so much versatility to our lineup, she can play anywhere on the field and is going to be a threat from the left side of the plate.”

Amelia Saviskas

Freshman | P

Parkland, Fla. | American Heritage Plantation

Probably the most familiar with the Lynn softball program, Saviskas will join her sister Olivia on the Fighting Knights pitching staff. The southpaw sported a career 1.82 earned run average in 63 appearances at American Heritage-Plantation with 186 strikeouts in 215 innings of work while collecting 22 victories and eight saves. She earned Sun-Sentinel Honorable Mention accolades.

From the coaches: “Our pitching staff is going to be complete with the addition of Amelia. Being left-handed, she is going to give a totally different look and has potential to dominate innings. I am very excited to get her in the bullpen and go to work.”

Karlie Sweiderk

Freshman | IF

Englewood, Fla. | Lemon Bay HS

Sweiderk arrives in Boca after helping Lemon Bay High School win a district title and advance to the regional final for the first time in four years. The smooth fielding middle infielder earnedHerald Tribune All-Area Honorable Mention accolades as a senior.

From the coaches: “Karlie’s glove is going to bring so much depth to our team up the middle. She’s very smooth and has great range at second, but I see her working at both middle infield positions.”
