ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University senior Shayne Fontana claimed another award for the Fighting Knights’ baseball program on Thursday afternoon, as he was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-South Region Second Team for NCAA Division II.
This is Fontana’s second postseason honor of the 2019 campaign, also garnering All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team plaudits. Fontana is the second Lynn baseball player to earn All-South Region accolades this season, joining Alejandro Martinez’s First Team nod from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA).
The Blue and White have had an ABCA All-South Region honoree in 15 consecutive years.
Fontana was the catalyst for the Lynn offense during the 2019 campaign, leading the Fighting Knights in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits and runs scored. ‘Stix’ also ranked in the top-10 in the SSC in slugging (.564), on-base (.454), runs scored (49) and walks (32).
The Lebanon, N.J. native graduates with a total of eight triples, tied for fifth-most in program history.
