Late Goals by Truong, Correa Lead NSU to Win and Men’s Soccer Honors Senior Class

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA- In a game that started with a downpour, Lily Truong and Dani Correa scored two big goals to propel the Sharks to victory. The Nova Southeastern Sharks take down Flagler 2-0 in tonight’s matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the downpour occurring on the field, both teams started the game off timid.
  • Defensively both teams were impressive, not allowing a single point in the first half.
  • As the second half progressed, the Sharks began their offensive attack, firing quality looks at the goal that was swatted away by the Flagler goalkeeper.
  • Stefane Rosa was also making her presence felt on the defensive side of the ball, knocking away a plethora of Saints shots on goal.
  • In the 81st minute, Truong broke the stalemate, scoring the first goal for the Sharks, to give them a 1-0 lead.
  • A few minutes later, Correa wanted to be a part of the action. Sneaking a goal into to back of the net, increasing the Shark lead to 2-0 and ultimately putting the game away for NSU.

This group has been one of the most successful classes in the history of the men’s soccer program at Nova Southeastern, being the core that established NSU men’s soccer on the national stage. Despite their best efforts, the Nova Southeastern Sharks dropped tonight’s match against the Maine Fort Kent Bengals 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

· Both defenses made their presence felt early, locking down both offenses from any chances of scoring.

· The Sharks saw some chances later in the first half with Christian Gorski firing a shot on goal, but had it swatted away by the Bengals goalie. Aleks BergPaul Boos, and Michael Lawrence also took shot attempts, but were unable to get them on goal.

· In the 37th minute, the Bengals were able to sneak one by Eduardo D’Avino, to take a 1-0 lead right before the break.

· In the 55th minute, Juanchi Nunez had an opportunity, but was once again saved by the Bengals’ goalkeeper.

· In the 70th minute, the Sharks were mere inches away from a goal when Christian Gorski’s free kick went right off the crossbar. Andrea Franchetto was able to regroup and fire another shot on goal but was kicked away by the Bengals’ goalkeeper.

· Farid Sar-Sar tried one more attempt to tie the game late in the 83rd minute, but his shot was just a little off.
